Overview

The Process Engineer in collaboration with the operational leadership team, is responsible for setting up the systems and processes to ensure product specifications and standards are understood, communicated, monitored, and produced. Instruct, train and coach division personnel in all aspects of the process, including the proper techniques, work instructions, production methods, quality assurance and plant operations. This role is responsible for establishing quality systems and processes that will enhance the quality performance and process efficiency throughout the facility.  Challenges established methods and ideas to stimulate progressive results. Must use judgment, experience and technical knowledge to accomplish goals and objectives. Promotes an environment that fosters teamwork, open communication and a focus on quality and efficiency.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Perform specification reviews and provide technical support throughout the division.
  • Perform contract and feasibility reviews through the First Article, Sample and Quotation Systems.
  • Complete comprehensive documentation packages such as PPAP and test data submissions.
  • Accurately review and approve quality criteria and finishing requirements of customer materials and material processes.
  • Collaborate with project teams to devise and implement methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and validating system requirements.
  • Participate in engineering and risk reviews and make recommendations to enhance the quality and manufacturability of new designs.
  • Supports measuring and analyzing key metrics to monitor and improve performance, which includes leading productivity improvements.
  • Develop and forward formal customer corrective action reports.
  • Collects and reports out on the required data and charts quality goals established by the management team.
  • Responsible for customer audits of process quality and systems, and directly interacts with Customers to discuss and resolve issues. 
  • Assists Sales and Customer Service with technical questions or concerns, tours of the facility and technical seminars. 
  • Provides support for the technical training of all personnel.
  • Ensures that our Quality System is proactively managed to meet and exceed certification standards through continuous monitoring of performance against Quality systems and guidelines.  Responsible for managing outside certification audits. 
  • Evaluates and performs reviews of quality department personnel and creates development plans for direct reports.  Creates and maintains annual training plans for all departmental personnel.
  • Strives to insure that PMF is taking advantage of the latest technology.  Evaluates new process technology or chemistry as they relate to quality, cost reductions, safety, impact on regulatory and environmental requirements.
  • Partners with Technologies to develop, implement, and audit adherence to “Best Practices”.
  • Measures COQ and identifies actions to improve COQ performance.
  • Works collaboratively with production team on product quality and safety.  Supports the continuous improvement process through development and training of the workforce. 
  • On-call for process related problems and resolution.
  • Demonstrates leadership competencies, traits, and attributes consistent with promoting a respectful, high performing and engaged workplace.
  • Practices and promotes good housekeeping and a safe working environment.

Physical/Environmental/Chemical Hazards

  • Sharp parts, sharp tooling, heavy carts, occasional hot and cold temperature and humidity levels, heat from ovens, moderate noise levels, limited hand and air tool use, compressed air (must use hearing protection).
  • Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be able to differentiate between color variance.
  • Potential splash exposure near process lines.
  • Various chemicals used in process.

 Education/Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related technical field or equivalent work experience with a direct supervisory and quality management background
  • Minimum of 5 years Process Engineering experience.
  • ISO knowledge and training (ISO 9001:2008/2015 and ISO 13485:2016) preferred.
  • Experience leading organizations through the quality journey to develop a culture of quality and attain ISO certifications.
  • Experience participating in internal and external audits preferred.
  • Strong General Manufacturing Practice and current Good Document Practices 1, 2 & 3 knowledge.
  • Well-versed in Quality tools such as Lean manufacturing, TPE, Mistake proofing, Kaizen and 5-S
  • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis.
