Overview

Job Summary

The Heavy Blaster Equipment Operator I is responsible for operation of blaster equipment, assuring quality of products, and assisting with coordinating and completing operations to meet production needs. Assists the Team Leader/Supervisor with training and on boarding of new employees and serves as the “go to” person for blasting questions.

 

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Loads parts and media into blasting equipment, either by hand or with powered industrial vehicles such as forklifts.
  • Sets up and operates equipment in accordance specifications on routing card.
  • Performs a variety of in process and quality tests and checks to ensure that product meets specifications and tolerances.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting on equipment.
  • Keeps equipment clean and in good working order.
  • Inspects and approves products staged for movement to next department.
  • Works directly with team leader or scheduler to meet daily production schedule requirements.
  • Provides training and on boarding of new employees and serves as the “go to” person for blasting questions.
  • Performs work in different departments as production dictates.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Works safely at all times and complies with all safety regulations.
  • Adheres to all policies, procedures, and practices of Pioneer Metal Finishing.
  • Ensures the production of a quality product in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Performs other miscellaneous job duties and related functions as needed.

Physical/Environmental/Chemical Hazards

  • Sharp parts, sharp tooling, heavy carts, occasional hot and cold temperature and humidity levels, heat from ovens, moderate noise levels, limited hand and air tool use, compressed air (must use hearing protection).
  • Must be able to repetitively lift 30-50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be able to differentiate between color variance.
  • Potential splash exposure near process lines.
  • Various chemicals used in process.
  • Dust created by blasting media.
  • Must be able to repetitively bend, lift, kneel and twist.
  • Must be able to stand for 8-10 hours a day
  • Ability to push and pull wheeled carts.

 

Education/Qualifications

  • Ability to operate all blasting equipment. 
  • Good leadership and teaching skills.
  • Previous experience as a Heavy Blaster Equipment Operator II, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to operate powered industrial vehicles and equipment.
  • Sufficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and pressurized equipment to blast parts to meet production levels and troubleshoot simple repairs.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write English on documents such as work orders, safety instructions and dispositions of parts.
  • Ability to speak English sufficiently to allow for adequate communications in emergencies and to allow for effective cooperation with team mates.
  • High school diploma preferred but not required.
